Worldwide App Platform Aimed Towards Automobiles Brought by Hyundai.

Hyundai Motor Group have recently developed a n global application platform for cars. Customers who purchase either a Hyundai or Kia cars in the near future shall be able to download and use this application for cars on the go.


According to the Hyundai Motor Group, its Joint R&D center have recently completed the development of a worldwide application platform for their cars. The worldwide application platform is an operating system for car which is similar to that of Google’s own Android and Apple’s iOS.

Hyundai and Kia are planning to get the application platform installed within the companies new cars. A Hyundai Group official spokesperson stated, “The joint development of in-car app platform by Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors has been completed and implemented in some LF Sonatas for test.”

Thanks to these recent development of the integrated platform, development of application for the new platform are expected to follow on through. The companies have recruited Hwang Sueng-ho, the former vice president of at Samsung electronics, as director of IT Services Department for Cars.


The IT Service Department for Cars is the main division in charge of the smart care development through telematics, which are the service enabling access to information which includes the web, emails and music files by telecommunication meaning while on the move.

An IT industry insider said, “Since the operating system has already been made based on wireless network, software companies are likely to follow up by developing customized apps for cars.” Hyundai Motor Group is also determined to keep up with app development. A Hyundai Motor official said, “We are going to identify the needs of our customers to expedite the development of customized apps for cars.”

However, this new application platform does not feature any interlocking function for the time being, Hyundai Car Group have commented that it will be “on the way” due to increasing demands.
