Baidu Mobile Security received a 100% rating in protection against malicious Android applications, above the industry average of 97.7%. It also received perfect scores for both protection ability and for usability. Furthermore, Baidu Mobile Security was awarded one bonus point for its added security features such as its call blocker, message filter and smart anti-fraud.
“We are honored that AV-TEST Labs, the world leader in IT security evaluation, has recognized Baidu Mobile Security with a perfect score,” said Zhang Lei, General Manager of Baidu’s Mobile Security Division. “This certification reflects our mission to help smartphone users everywhere keep their devices as safe as possible.”
In AV-TEST’s rigorous evaluation, each security product was presented with a representative set of 2,326 malicious applications discovered within four weeks of the test date. Each product was also judged on usability, meaning the impact of the security software on the usability of the device. The criteria for usability include the impact on the device’s battery life and operating speed, as well as the amount of traffic generated by the application and whether or not the application generated false warnings. Baidu Mobile Security received top marks in all of these usability criteria.
Baidu Mobile Security is based on Android Optimization Master, an Android app developed by the company Tapas which Baidu acquired in late 2012. Since its rebranding in December 2013, Baidu Mobile Security has surpassed 200 million users worldwide. As of Q1 2014, Baidu commands 18% of the Chinese mobile security market share, ranking third after Tencent and Qihoo’s similar products, according to EnfoDesk.
